Streaker Dinghy

The Streaker was designed by Jack Holt in 1975. His rationale was to design a 'light weight Solo' as he was finding it difficult to haul his Solo up the slipway as he got older. He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams producing similar performance at lower cost while at the same time allowing a much wide range of helms to succeed as well as making the boat easier to handle ashore.

The Streaker design has proved to be a well balanced design with few vices and is capable of being sailed competitively by helms of many different shapes and sizes. The current National Champion is 62Kg (9st 10lb) but in the top ten were weights up to 84kg (13st 3 lbs)

The Streaker class is now run by the Streaker Class Owners Association and over last few years the class have updated the rules without compromising the original design. Changes include FRP and composite construction, Double bottom leading to virtually dry capsize, centre main if desired, flexible choice of fittings and most recently a small sail for use by those needing less Streaker Dinghypower.

Professionally build or build your own from plans available from the class association at very reasonable price. The Streaker shows exemplary good manners with a stayed single sail plan. It is an easy boat to handle even for inexperienced helms whilst offering exciting sailing to the more experienced. It is a very responsive boat that planes easily and points high for a single sail design.

The superior mast tubes provide superb gust response with fast reaction return to mast and sail shape which keeps you sailing at maximum speed. If you want to find out more about the real difference, go to about us, Aluminium Technology.

More controllable power by providing high quality mast tubes with exceptional gust response and control.

Our quality controlled tube design and production methods allows us to provide the range of tubes that are fitted out for ease of use and suit light crews for young ages through to heavier crews as sailors grow up. This ensures that the sailors spend as much time sailing rather than capsizing and losing a little enthusiasm for the sport.

Butler boats are one of the key boat builders for the Streaker class. Dave butler says "Super Spars has been supplying Butler Boats with all spars and spare parts for the last five years. Over that time we have spear headed new ideas to help develop the class. In particular we worked very closely with Super Spars and the class to reintroduce a mast and boom section that replicates the same bend characteristics as the old Holt section that are favoured by the class. Super Spars has embraced the concept to enable the project move forward." "An excellent service!"

"The Superspars Rigel mast for the Streaker is the smallest section available in class.  This enables good flow over the sail and excellent gust response compared to other available sections." - Steve Cockerill, Rooster Sailing
